India gained independence on 15 August 1947 and did not have its own constitution until 26 January 1950. Republic Day is considered to be the day when the Constitution of India came into force. All schools and colleges across the country are gearing up to celebrate this national event on January 26. Various competitions are organized on Republic Day and a speech is given. Today we have gathered here to celebrate the 73rd Republic Day of India. On this auspicious day I convey my greetings to all our countrymen and pray for the prosperity and overall development for our nation. It is a privilege that I got an opportunity to speak on this occasion.
You all know that we got independence on August 15, 1947. But we became a republic country when our constitution came into existence from January 26, 1950. Our constitution was prepared by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first President of India and the first general elections were held in our country in 1952.
In the past 72 years our country has gone through many changes. The command of the country came into the hands of the people and India became a democratic country. Along with lots of development, there are some pitfalls that have also come in the way. Unemployment and corruption has grown up very fast. We should take a pledge to find solution to these problems so that our country becomes the best place to live on earth.

Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year as our constitution came into being on this day….. years ago. It was written by Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. As citizens of India, Indian Constitution is a very important part of our life. Our country’s administration is based on its fundamentals.
Republic Day is celebrated with great fervour and joy throughout India just like other festivals. On this day the ceremony of flag hoisting is done and National Anthem is sung by everyone. Another popular patriotic song that is sung on this day is Rashtriya Jhanda Abhinandan Song – Vijai Vishwa Tiranga Pyara, Zanda Uncha Rahe Hamara.
Great Indian leaders who took part in India’s freedom struggle are remembered. Patriotic songs are sung and played. Social gatherings and various social events are organized throughout the country. Various new initiatives of social importance are started on this day. We must always take part in such events and other social initiatives so that we can do our something for the progress of our nation.
We all know that a lot of soldiers and great leaders gave-up their life for our nation. We are living a peaceful life because of these great individuals. So, today let’s pledge to always remember their valuable sacrifices and do our bit to make India a better palace.
